Shhhh...

Don't tell anyone - because I do NOT want to jinx it - but Jack has started sleeping in. Like until 7 most mornings. It is early Christmas over here this last week!

A little happy and a lot of sand

With all the sadness in the world yesterday, Jack and I headed to the park and the beach for some happiness. And happiness was had!

Math and music

In addition to starting his music class this week, Jack has also figured out his own musical equation:

Coconut oil + wooden spoon = early morning jam session

15.5 months

Today was Jack's 15 month appointment. We were behind schedule due to all the travel this month but things look good. Jack is in the 97th percentile for height (Matt has requested that credit to him be noted), the 75th percentile for weight, and the 70th percentile for head circumference. Jack charmed his new pediatrician (his old one moved and we miss her) who was great with him. The doc was especially impressed with Jack's verbal skills.

A couple of shots later (which he took like a champ) and we were on our way home!

Just for a general update, he says all his 14 month words plus:
tiger
birdie
ham
ball
baby
see you later
Katie
clean up
ears
eyes
cookie
cracker
green bean
apple

He also:
*RUNS
*brushes his hair
*points out most of the main characters in his books
*makes monkey noises
*roars if he sees/hears you say "tiger"
*sings to himself
*plays piano
*has 11 teeth
*has the occasional toddler meltdown complete with a fall to the floor - so far, we ignore these pretty well :)

Some backstory required

Let me set the scene:

After a somewhat messy diaper change this morning, I put Jack on the floor so I could be sure the mess was sufficiently contained and cleaned. I didn't bother to zip up Jack's PJs because, frankly, I had bigger fish to fry. Off he went - PJs trialling behind him like an odd superhero cape. He crossed the house, took a quick stop to push his wagon into the dining room, and then began quickly and quietly collecting goodies. His favorite spot to bring said goodies? The treadmill. Today's loot included a book, an old tube of diaper rash cream, a sock, a bowl, Matt's car registration, and my wallet. Guess which was his favorite...

Takin' our show on the road

Sigh... anybody else tired? We have had travel spanning over two weeks but the light at the end of the tunnel is near. The good news is that everyone is safe and sound and even the dog has managed to adjust to lots of different locations and caretakers. Jack has, not surprisingly, taken it all in stride. There have been a few shaky days with sleep (or lack of it) but one good two-hour nap our first full day at home was the magic reset button. And thank goodness for that because nothing will make you appreciate a great husband/partner in life/baby daddy like an few days as a solo mama with an overtired toddler.

Have I mentioned how much we love our babysitter?

The one good thing I can say about Matt having to travel for work is that Jack has gotten lots of quality time with family (Grandma for the first trip, Granddad while we were in Orlando, Great Aunt Elizabeth on our way home). He also got his ISR skills refreshed which was overdue and it did my heart good to see him float perfectly in all his clothes. I am a proud and t-i-r-e-d mama.

Still kicking

It's been a while since I've posted but it isn't for lack of excitement. The last few weeks have had quite a bit going on: visits with friends and family, our most significant injury to date (knock on wood), new foods, a 5K walk followed by a new tire, new phones, excellent Gator games, and lots of fun. A day in the life of a 14 month old

That's right... FOURTEEN months. He's looking like a big boy more and more each day. It would be bittersweet if we had time to contemplate it, but in reality, we're just trying to keep up with the kiddo at this point!

Not a bad view for every Sunday morning since before he will remember.
Making footprints with Papa

A little exercise before breakfast
Fish!
Hummus!
Took a break to watch the fountain before shoe shopping (for Jack, not Mommy).
New food - cauliflower!

Saturday

We had a lovely day that didn't include too much other than breakfast at home, lunch out and a quick stop at Playmobil, a car nap, and an evening neighborhood stroll. Hope you all had a great day, too!

Look out!

He's getting quick and quite pleased with himself on two hind legs!

Where is that new phone???

Okay, so Jack is a better walker than I am videographer. Please ignore my complaints about the camera - it really did look like it wasn't recording.

Just a little update

Whew! It has been a busy couple of weeks here. Jack seems to be growing by the day - and he has a few other fun habits now, too. Dancing is one of them:

(please note that he is also trying to figure out how to take apart his train)

We are now prepared for Halloween with this awesome monkey costume. It is a little big, but that just means he will get to play dress up in it for longer. I can neither confirm nor deny that the sizing is a little off because I bought it used - but really, does a 1+ year old need a brand spankin' new costume that will likely stay on his body for all of 22 minutes on the day it is intended to be worn? I think not... and Jack doesn't seem to mind one bit.

Finally, one of Jack's many outings with Miss Katie this week was to his favorite: Loggerhead Marinelife Center. This was a slightly different trip than most because he not only wore shoes, he walked from pool to pool (while holding Miss Katie's hand). Too big!

Labor Day

We had an awesome Labor Day weekend around here. Two beach trips, Gator football game, breakfast out Sunday morning, working out, and lots of playtime. Here's hoping your Labor Day was just as much fun!
