This is what Saturdays were made for...

What fun was had today! We all went to the mall before it opened while Papa hot his hair cut. Jack said, "Good job, Papa!" We are hoping seeing Papa get his hair cut will make it seem cooler when Jack gets his hair cut next. The rest of the time we ran around an empty mall. It was more fun than it sounds.

Next, pre-lunch swimming. Jack swims twice a day almost every day. It's just too hot to do much else outside.

After nap time, we ventured out for the first official family movie theater outing. We really had no idea what to expect, but since we all love Monsters, Inc., it only made sense to try Monsters University as the first movie out. Jack did amazing! He laughed, he made the entire theater laugh once with a perfectly timed "oh maaaaaan!", he did not try to get down too much, and he ate popcorn like it was his job. Also, he's loud! I know, you're shocked. But really - really pretty loud. Thankfully he is loud and happy and we were in a theater full of little kids so he fit right in.

A little grocery shopping on the way home and now, it's time for pre-dinner swim!

Happy Father's Day!

For our second Father's Day, Papa decided to earn some extra credit and let Mommy sneak away to Virginia to celebrate her best friend's graduation from culinary school. (Good job, Mama Kate!) From 10am Saturday to 12pm Sunday, it was a boys only clubhouse around here - with an exception for the dog - and they stayed busy. There was swimming, napping, a hair cut, train rides, lunch out, dinner in, and more swimming!

On Sunday morning, Jack helped Papa open his cards from everyone.

Then we all met back up for Father's Day lunch at Texas de Brazil and also managed a trip to the beach and more swimming before the day was done.

Jack, you have the very best Papa you could ever hope for and I'm glad we could show him how much we love and appreciate him today!

This went on for at least 10 minutes

Yesterday we went to celebrate Eva's first birthday. Eva, my cousin Sarah's youngest daughter, made her very early arrival last year after Sarah spent a month on hospital bed rest keeping her cooking as long as possible. Eva is a miracle - no doubt about it - and a mighty cute one at that.

Thanks to her early arrival, both Eva and her big sister Lily are the same age for a few weeks. This means that there were three one year olds at the celebration last night. It was not a quiet event.

Jack and Lily are close in age (closer than we expected due to his early arrival!) and, after getting warmed up, they had a blast with each other. There was coloring and pretend talking on phones and toy sharing and cupcake eating and a few stolen kisses and lots of giggling. There was also an inexplicable amount of pushing chairs around the house. Like a LOT of it.

Alphabet

The other day, Jack sang the entire ABCs the first time we had ever heard him even try. There were a few letters missing and the L M N O P was "momomomoP" but still, we were impressed. By that night, it was pretty solid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CA0NDzbiZw

Missing piece

Papa has been on the road again this week. The first night he was gone, Jack learned how to climb out of his crib around 11pm. He's also cutting all four molars. There wasn't a lot of sleep and there was some fussing (by whom isn't important). Still, we're a good enough team to make it through - we're just better when our whole family is together.
